989 M2 problems. I recently picked up a 989 M2 and outwardly it looks very good but I am having problems with functioning. On the first trip to the range it was working fine with the exception of FTF about 40% of time. I took it down and firing pin looked good and was free in its channel but the hammer spring looked as if it had been ground down.The Marlin Model 989 was the first clip magazine rifle of the new line of semiautomatics started in 1959. I bought a Marlin 989-M2, .22LR way back in 1967. It came with one 7 round magazine. Over the years I have been able to find more 7 round magazines but, it hasn't been easy to find higher capacity mags. I found these 10 round mags on Bud's Gun Shop online so I ordered two of them. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the mags I received.
