How much HP can a stock rearend handle. My 327 is putting out about 350 HP. Running a Tremec 5 speed with 3.73 stock posi. In my younger days I would break axles not the rearend in my 63 Impala with same amount of HP but I had an automatic in the car. But general rule is about 400, but like I said there has been alot of cases with more than that. But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly. The 6L80E has been out for years and its all in the tuning. I've heard of people break them at 500hp or so but as long as you have a bigger trans cooler and watch your temps it'll last a long time. Stock LMM can probably handle much more HP/TQ mods than the stock Allison tranny.
