Definitely grab one hero at least. The cost for the first is low and well worth the production. If you can, with that scenario, I'd grab Hercules or Sinbad.Play Pericles or Peter on a Pangea. That will give you a good baseline of how to handle higher difficulties with an easier road to victory. Also if you want an early war at emperor or higher, I would recommend focusing tech solely on your early war conquests.
