From what I've read, a Mauser chambered in 7.92x57 (8mm), will have "7/9" stamped on the bbl, right next to the receiver. If it was converted to 7.62x51 NATO, it will have the German eagle stamped on the bbl.

The rifle has been rebuilt but still retains many of its original markings. The markings on the metal are deep and including several Nazi "eagle / swastika" stampings on the receiver.
