3 posts · Joined 2015. #1 · Jul 28, 2015. Okay, here is the problem. I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty 3.7 V6 and its idling really rough. I just made a trip back from the smoky mountains in Tennessee. While I was going up a hill near the top, the pressure popped off my cap for water. I thought it blew the head gasket but the engine never heated up.

However, last year it started giving me problems. It started to overheat about 15-20 minutes into towing and sometimes wouldn't start after being turned off.2004 Jeep Liberty 4x4 problems. I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty and yesterday the Transmission light came on in the dashboard and then a little later there was a whining noise. Now to go along with that it's having issues shifting gears. I'm going to try and take it in tomorrow to get it looked at.

Mechanic friend suggested change oil ,add one quart of rislone. Repeat at 300 miles, it stopped burning/ using oil, turns out it was oil rings carbon up.
